I’m excited to share with you a new journey I’m embarking on…running in the Baltimore Running Festival on October 17, 2015 as part of Team Sadie to raise funds for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center! I know, this doesn’t sound like me but I’m thrilled. Please visit my fundraising page to learn more, and consider donating to support my efforts! My fundraising message is also copied below :) Thank you!

Hi family and friends!

This past year, I had the joy and honor of meeting two wonderful ambassadors of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Jason and Amy, who allowed us the honor of telling the story of their daughter, Sadie, through our 2015 MIX 106.5 Radiothon (listen to their story). I was struck by Jason and Amy’s wonderful outlook, passion and love and knew I wanted to join Team Sadie. Yes, I HATE running, that’s no secret, but there’s something to be said about running with a purpose and being part of something bigger than you. The ultimate goal is to raise $1M for Sadie’s Gift by 2016, the 10-year anniversary of Sadie’s death, and I’m beyond humbled to play even a small part in this.

I’m terrified to embark on this running journey, but on each of my running attempts so far I’ve thought of not only Sadie, Jason and Amy, but of all of the amazing families and kids I’ve had the honor to meet and get to know over my past few years with Hopkins Children’s. These kids and families are so inspiring, their courage immeasurable, and whenever I think of quitting I focus on one of them and how much I have learned from each and every one of them. Despite their battles and the unfairness of life, they still have such joy and such love to give. They are the reason I’m going to run more in one day than I think I ran in all of 2014.

As part of Team Sadie, I will be running about 7 miles at the Baltimore Running Festival on October 17th as part of a relay team (we’ve named ourselves The Turtle Derby, because we know we’re going to be the slowest team out there). I have pledged to run, but more importantly I’ve pledged to raise $500 to support pediatric simulation training at the Children’s Center (seriously, it’s so cool…I’m limited in words here but check out Sadie's Gift to read more!).

I would be honored if you would consider supporting me in my attempts to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause, and help me make a difference at Hopkins Children’s. If you do, I promise to think of you on one of my training runs and on race-day. For every $100 I raise, I’ll share a personal “why” story of why I run and how these kids and families have touched my life in an email to all my supporters. All donations are tax-deductible, and will go straight to helping our kids.

If you have any questions, or would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to reach out :)

Thank you so much for your support, both emotional and financial! It wouldn’t be right to not to end without my favorite hashtag: #FTKAllDayEveryDay

For the kids,

Amanda
